JOE STAFFURTH, PETROLEUM GEOLOGIST

Joe Staffurth is a geologist with over 30 years in the oil and gas Industry. He held various management roles including Exploration Manager in the UK and Director of Exploration in Italy. He set up his own business, JSI Services, in 2000 providing a summary and analysis of international exploration deals. Between 2000 and 2014 he has evaluated more than 3,000 exploration deals in 129 different countries.

 

Mr. Staffurth graduated with a degree in geology from Birmingham University in 1977 before becoming a well site geologist. In 1980, he joined Esso Exploration, UK as an Area Geologist. At Esso Exploration, he received training in all aspects of petroleum geology, including Development geology in Canada. In 1985 Mr. Staffurth joined Fina Plc where he was promoted to Area Manager. At Fina he managed small teams, handling complex problems in the UKCS and onshore UK exploration. In 1992, Mr. Staffurth continued his rising career at Fina as Exploration Manager. He managed all exploration assets and technical work and developed effective working relationships with staff and management. During his tenure, he supported and regulated the economic evaluation of all Fina’s North Sea exploration assets.
